Kano State's Commissioner for Water Resources, Umar Haruna Doguwa, has tendered his resignation from the position. A formal statement released on Tuesday by Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the spokesperson for Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, confirmed that the governor accepted the commissioner's resignation letter on Monday.
Doguwa officially submitted his resignation on Monday, March 2, 2026, making his departure effective from the following day, Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
This latest resignation follows a series of departures from the state executive council. Previously, Air Vice Marshal Ibrahim Umaru (rtd), the Commissioner for Internal Security and Special Services; Nasiru Sule Garo, the Commissioner for Special Duties; and Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofarmata, the Commissioner for Science, Technology, and Innovation, had also resigned from their posts.
The statement indicated that Governor Yusuf conveyed his gratitude to Doguwa for his contributions and service to Kano State.
The governor acknowledged that during Doguwa's tenure, the Ministry of Water Resources achieved notable progress in refurbishing water facilities and extending access to clean water in numerous communities.
He further stated that Doguwa's leadership was instrumental in enhancing the ministry's institutional capabilities and improving the delivery of services.
Governor Yusuf extended his best wishes for Doguwa's future undertakings and has assigned the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Abubakar Makoda, to temporarily oversee the Ministry of Water Resources until a new substantive commissioner is appointed or redeployed.
