According to intelligence sources from South Korea, Kim Jong Un's daughter, Ju Ae, is anticipated to be declared his successor at an important party congress scheduled for this month.
Lawmakers in Seoul have reported that Kim has effectively named his daughter as his heir following a discussion with the National Intelligence Service of South Korea.
Lawmaker Lee Seong-kweun informed reporters after a confidential parliamentary session that the intelligence agency has established that she is now distinctly 'designated as a successor'.
Lee added that this assessment was made after observing various factors, including her growing visibility at official functions.
Experts believe that Ju Ae's formal naming as a successor may lead to her assuming a more significant role within the party, possibly even taking up the position of First Secretary of the Central Committee, which is the second most influential role in the ruling Workers' Party during the forthcoming congress.
While the exact age of Ju Ae has not been verified by Pyongyang, it is widely believed she is 14, whereas South Korean officials estimate her age to be between 12 and 14.
Ju Ae has long been seen as a potential successor, given her increased public appearances alongside her father in recent years.
Last year, South Korea's intelligence service indicated that she was likely next in line after accompanying Kim on a notable visit to Beijing.
In January, state media featured her alongside Kim at the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun, where they honored the embalmed remains of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il.
North Korea is preparing for a pivotal party congress at the end of February, its largest political event, where it is likely to outline its foreign policy, military strategy, and nuclear plans for the next five years.
