Nigerian entertainer Kokopee has opened up about finding himself caught in the crossfire of a public disagreement between music star Davido and social media activist VeryDarkMan, commonly known as VDM. The unfolding situation drew online criticism from observers who accused Kokopee of maintaining silence and questioned whether the music star had actually reached out to him regarding the tension.
Speaking on how he became entangled in the dispute, Kokopee clarified that he was entirely absent when Davido and the activist initially established their relationship or when the singer arranged for the activist to visit Lagos. His involvement only began after cracks appeared in their bond and friction set in.
How did Kokopee get involved in the dispute?
According to Kokopee, the situation escalated when VDM contacted him directly to express grievances over an action allegedly committed by the award-winning singer. In response, Kokopee suggested that the activist channel his complaints through associates like Israel DMW or Ubi Franklin. Simultaneously, Davido also reached out to Kokopee to discuss the unfolding controversy.
Kokopee recounted that he attempted to bridge the gap by explaining to the singer why the activist felt deeply aggrieved and betrayed. However, Davido rejected this perspective during their communication.
The tension shifted back to his relationship with the activist when VDM confronted him for trying to mediate. Kokopee noted that the activist questioned his motives, specifically asking why he was heavily invested in the singer's affairs and whether a free music collaboration had been promised to him as an incentive.
What did Kokopee say to his critics?
Facing backlash from social media users who doubted that the international afrobeat artist would communicate with him, Kokopee maintained that he deliberately chose to keep their direct messages private.
"I did not disclose the content of my chat with Davido, and Davido is not too big to message me," he stated, dismissing skeptics who questioned his relevance.
He further hit back at online critics, stating, "I’m only humble, not hungry," while rhetorically challenging doubters by asking if he was considered too small for the singer to contact.
Ultimately, Kokopee decided to withdraw completely from the mediation efforts to protect his friendship with VDM and avoid accusations of betrayal. While he noted that he still counsels the activist behind the scenes to navigate his relationships prudently, he concluded that it is impossible to force two grown individuals to reconcile their differences.
