The Lagos State Government has stepped in to rescue an 11-year-old boy who faced brutal mistreatment by his mother.
On Wednesday, March 25, 2026, the Lagos State Bureau of Public Defender (BPD) released a statement detailing how the boy suffered repeated violent acts, including being struck with electric cables and other dangerous objects, leading to numerous injuries.
After learning about the child's situation, the Bureau promptly reported the case to law enforcement.
An investigation by the Nigeria Police Force at the Igbogbo Division ensued, culminating in the mother's arrest and subsequent court charges against her.
According to the Bureau of Public Defender (BPD), the case concerned a minor (name withheld) who had been subjected to extreme physical harm by his biological parent.
The Bureau indicated that the reported abuse involved frequent assaults with electric cables and other hazardous items, resulting in various injuries to the child.
Following a comprehensive inquiry by the Nigeria Police Force at the Igbogbo Division in Ikorodu, the mother was taken into custody and is now facing legal action in court.
The case has been presented before the Magistrate Court in Ikorodu, Lagos, in line with the Bureau's commitment to maintain the rights and welfare of children.
In response to the urgent situation, the Bureau of Public Defender ensured the immediate removal of the child from the harmful environment and arranged for him to be placed in a safe shelter for care and protection.
The accused is currently being held in custody while awaiting further legal proceedings.
