The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has once again extended the deadline for individuals to submit their annual income tax returns, setting the new cut-off date as April 21.

This latest extension was communicated via a statement released and signed by Monsurat Amasa-Oyelude, Head of Corporate Communications at LIRS.

The agency explained that the decision to grant a further extension was prompted by a noticeable surge in activity on its eTax platform, as a greater number of taxpayers are making efforts to file their returns before the established deadline.

"The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) wishes to express its sincere appreciation to esteemed taxpayers for their continued compliance and commitment to the filing of their individual annual income tax returns.

"Following the earlier extension granted to April 14, 2026, the Agency has observed a significant increase in traffic on its eTax platform as more taxpayers endeavour to meet the filing deadline.

"In view of this development, and to ensure that all taxpayers are provided with adequate opportunity to complete their filings, LIRS hereby announces a further extension of the deadline, now set for April 21, 2026," the statement detailed.

Initially, the LIRS had set March 31, 2026, as the deadline for individual taxpayers in Lagos to file their returns for the 2026 assessment year. This was later extended to April 14.

The LIRS further stated that this additional extension is being provided to accommodate taxpayers, enhance convenience, and ensure the accuracy of submitted information, in light of the high volume of submissions.

Taxpayers in Lagos are urged by the LIRS to complete their civic duty by filing their returns within this extended period.

"Taxpayers are reminded that the filing of annual income tax returns remains a statutory obligation and are encouraged to take advantage of this final extension to fulfil their civic responsibility.

"The executive chairman of LIRS, Subair, on Friday reiterated that all filings must be completed electronically via the LIRS eTax platform: https://etax.lirs.net, which remains the only approved channel for submission," the statement concluded.
