Man Loses Life While Retrieving Gas Cylinder from Well in Kano

A 30-year-old man has tragically died after attempting to retrieve a burning gas cylinder from a well in Gwarzo Local Government Area, Kano State. The incident occurred during a rescue mission prompted by a distress call to emergency services.

A 30-year-old individual has been pronounced dead following his attempt to recover a burning gas cylinder from a well located in the Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State.

The Kano State Fire Service spokesperson, Saminu Abdullahi, confirmed the incident to reporters, stating that emergency responders received a distress call on Sunday regarding a rescue operation at Saulawa Quarters in Gwarzo. He elaborated that the Gwarzo Fire Service was promptly dispatched after a local resident, Alhaji Dan Gwarzo, raised an alarm about a man entering the well amid an emergency.

"The man, identified as Ashahabu Ubale, who is approximately 30 years old, ventured into the well to retrieve a gas cylinder that had been set alight and thrown inside," stated Saminu.

According to his account, while attempting to retrieve the cylinder, it opened and released gas that displaced oxygen within the well, leading to suffocation. He mentioned that the victim was later rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead by the medical staff on duty.

Saminu noted that the body was eventually handed over to PC Muhammad Zakiyyu from the Gwarzo Police Division.

The Kano State Fire Service extended their condolences to the bereaved family and cautioned community members against entering wells and confined spaces without appropriate safety precautions in place. They emphasized the importance of adhering to safety measures around open wells and hazardous areas, warning that such situations can lead to fatal outcomes.
