The Anambra State Police Command has taken into custody a masquerade involved in violent and unprovoked attacks against innocent individuals, contributing to a severe disturbance of public peace in Awgbu, located within the Orumba North Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement released on Wednesday, January 14, the spokesperson for the State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, informed the public, especially residents of Anambra and relevant stakeholders, that the individual responsible for the unrest has been detained by the police.
The statement highlighted that the masquerade's actions were captured in a viral video circulating on social media and were considered entirely unacceptable, illegal, and contrary to public harmony.
SP Ikenga emphasized that the Command would not tolerate such behavior in any form, regardless of cultural or traditional contexts.
He also mentioned that the suspect is presently held in police custody while efforts continue to investigate and identify other individuals who may have participated in the incident.
Furthermore, he assured the public of the Police Command's dedication to upholding law and order and ensuring that everyone found responsible will face the consequences of their actions.
