MGDLI calls on Lagos Muslims to join three‑day programme for better mosques

The Mosque Guidance and Development Lagos Initiative is urging Muslims across Lagos State to take part in a three‑day anniversary event from Oct. 30 to Nov. 1, aimed at improving mosque management, cleanliness and community welfare.

The Mosque Guidance and Development Lagos Initiative (MGDLI) is inviting Muslims throughout Lagos State to attend a three‑day anniversary programme scheduled for 30 October to 1 November 2026, with the goal of fostering stronger, cleaner and better‑managed mosques.

What is the programme about?

The event will be hosted at the Lagos State First Secretariat Mosque Hall (Olanike Hall) within the Shamsi Adisa Thomas Central Mosque, Ikeja GRA. It targets Imams, mosque administrators, scholars, youth groups, professionals and community leaders, encouraging them to contribute ideas and resources.

Why is broad participation essential?

MGDLI stresses that mosque development is a collective responsibility, not limited to clergy or committees. The organisation asserts that every Muslim should help build institutions that embody Islamic values of accountability, hygiene and service to humanity.

What activities are planned?

The itinerary includes special Jumu’ah prayers, health outreach, sanitation and hygiene workshops, first‑aid sensitisation, a keynote lecture and networking sessions. Participants will also receive free medical checks, blood pressure and blood‑sugar screening, counselling and referrals through a partnership with the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital Muslim Nurse Forum.

What does the initiative hope to achieve?

According to MGDLI, the programme offers a platform for the Ummah to exchange knowledge, support better mosque administration and promote community welfare. The event aligns with Islamic teachings that champion cleanliness, good governance and mutual assistance.

Who is being asked to support the effort?

Beyond individual attendees, the initiative appeals to philanthropists, Islamic organisations, corporate bodies and other stakeholders to fund the current programme and future mosque‑development projects.

“Every Muslim has a role to play in building institutions that reflect the values of Islam, accountability, cleanliness and service to humanity,” the organisation said, underscoring the call to action.

The three‑day gathering is positioned not merely as a celebration but as a catalyst for collective action, aiming to leave a lasting impact on mosque infrastructure and the broader Lagos Muslim community for generations to come.
