In light of the ongoing geopolitical unrest in the Middle East, the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Ag. IGP Olatunji Disu, has provided reassurances to all Nigerians regarding the Nigeria Police Force's dedication to safeguarding lives, properties, and maintaining national peace.
A statement from the police spokesperson, ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, indicates that while Nigeria maintains its stability and the internal security situation is under diligent management, the Force has stepped up proactive and intelligence-driven policing measures nationwide.
‘’The Ag. IGP has instructed all Commissioners of Police across the 36 States, including the Federal Capital Territory, to enhance surveillance and intelligence activities, particularly focusing on the North West, North East, and North Central regions. They are also tasked with strengthening collaboration with community and religious leaders, increasing visibility around places of worship and public areas, and promptly addressing any incidents where individuals or groups might attempt to incite unrest or sectarian discord due to global developments.
The Nigeria Police Force firmly states that Nigeria will not serve as a battleground for external conflicts. Any efforts to introduce foreign ideological or religious disputes into the country will be met with strict legal action,’’ the statement further elaborated.
Hundeyin emphasized that IGP Disu has called upon community leaders throughout the nation to continue advocating for peace and encouraged citizens to remain calm, alert, and law-abiding while reporting any suspicious activities to the closest police station. He reaffirmed that the Nigeria Police Force is resolute, fully prepared, and entirely committed to protecting every Nigerian and ensuring national security at all times.
