Operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command have apprehended three men in Lafia for alleged impersonation, possession of a forged anti-corruption agency identification card, and suspected ties to a secret cult.

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Nasarawa State have detained three male suspects in Lafia for allegedly posing as personnel of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The arrest occurred during a routine security patrol when law enforcement intercepted an unregistered Lexus IS 250 vehicle along the Bukan Sidi axis of the state capital.

According to an official release by the command, the suspects were apprehended by tactical operatives attached to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit. The individuals in custody have been identified as Mohammed Umar, Mohammed Nuhu, and Ibrahim Suleiman.

What led to the interception of the suspects?

During initial questioning at the scene, Mohammed Nuhu claimed to be an operative of the anti-graft agency, presenting an identification card that was later discovered to be counterfeit. Meanwhile, the driver, Mohammed Umar, failed to provide valid ownership documentation for the unregistered automobile, leading officers to take all three occupants into custody for comprehensive questioning.

What discoveries emerged from the police investigation?

Subsequent inquiries by law enforcement established that the ICPC identity card presented by Nuhu was entirely forged. Nuhu stated during interrogation that he travelled alongside the driver from Kaduna State merely to assist, citing Umar's lack of a valid driver's licence. Additionally, background checks and profiling indicated that the third suspect, Ibrahim Suleiman, is allegedly linked to the Eiye Confraternity, an unlawful secret society.

Authorities have confirmed that the suspects will soon be arraigned in court to face appropriate criminal charges. Meanwhile, police detectives are intensifying efforts to trace the rightful owner of the intercepted vehicle and uncover any other potential criminal enterprises connected to the group.
