MyCityApp Nigeria has officially made its debut across the country, offering vital services designed to enhance urban living. This innovative platform consolidates transport updates, government services, local business information, and emergency contact details into a single accessible application, tailored to the daily realities of Nigerians.
The nationwide launch event was attended by prominent figures including high- ranking government officials, industry leaders, and security experts, showcasing the collaborative effort spanning various sectors that brought this initiative to fruition.
Developed in partnership with government bodies and MTN Nigeria, MyCityApp aims to simplify the way individuals interact with city services. It provides users the opportunity to find essential information such as government services, business directories, emergency contacts, and even job opportunities, all within one interface.
During the launch, the Honourable Minister of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy, Hon. Hannatu Musa Musawa, articulated that MyCityApp transcends being just a mobile application; it embodies a visionary project that leverages technology to promote tourism, simplify public services, and foster safer urban environments. She referred to the app as a “smart urban companion” that enhances users' confidence and safety in navigating Nigerian cities.
"When people arrive in any city, their first instinct is to reach for their phones," she remarked. "MyCityApp transforms the mobile device into a tool for discovering local services, events, and transport alternatives."
The event further highlighted Nigeria's rich culture. The minister noted that Nigeria's most significant global brand is rooted in its music, fashion, and diverse cultural heritage, emphasizing the ministry's efforts to shift the focus from oil dependence towards harnessing the economic potential of culture and creativity.
Similarly, Karl Toriola, the CEO of MTN Nigeria, represented by ThankGod Otorkpa from the company’s sales and distribution unit, remarked on the app's capacity to enhance living standards by optimizing travel time, reducing emissions, and improving community engagement.
"MyCityApp signifies our progress towards leveraging technology for enhanced accessibility, efficiency, and opportunities," he stated, adding that MTN would deliver secure, robust infrastructure to support millions of users during the application’s rollout.
Adedotun Oyinloye, head of marketing for MyCityApp Nigeria, also elaborated on the application's significant features. Residents across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory can now receive real-time city insights and public transportation updates, facilitate payments for government services, identify local businesses and entertainment venues, and directly contact emergency services.
The app additionally features comprehensive directories of government agencies and embassies and dedicated listings for housing and job opportunities, thereby encouraging broader economic participation. Civic engagement tools enable users to report issues and provide feedback to local authorities, promoting transparency and participatory governance.
This launch marks a crucial step in advancing smart city initiatives nationwide, delivering urban services that cater to all states.
