Upon finding the baby, Iloanya immediately sought the help of a passerby, who confirmed the child's wellbeing before they contacted Mrs. Chika Onyema, the shop owner.

Mrs. Onyema stated to Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) that upon opening the bag, they found a note from the mother asking for assistance in caring for the child.

Witnesses, including several women who gathered around, expressed shock and concern regarding the incident, even as they quickly donated baby supplies to help.

The incident was reported to ABS, who then brought the child to the Anambra Police B Division, where formal documentation was performed. Subsequently, the infant was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit at the Mother and Child Department of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka, on the directive of the Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare.
