The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has stated its intention to take legal action against the telecommunications company Airtel Nigeria, alleging wrongful ambush marketing of the Super Eagles during their participation in the 35th Africa Cup of Nations finals held in Morocco.

In a formal communication dispatched to Airtel through its legal representatives, Festus Keyamo Chambers, the NFF expressed strong objections to a particular post on Airtel Nigeria’s verified Instagram account. This post showcased images of four Super Eagles players alongside the NFF's trademarked logo and Airtel's logo presented together, accompanied by the phrases "We are with you, Eagles!" and "#FeelTheConnection." The federation contended that this gave a false impression of partnership between Airtel and the NFF.

The letter emphasized, "Your company has engaged in misleading advertising through these posts, which imply a connection between your organization and the NFF and its associated entities."

The NFF asserted, "We believe this publication was executed with malice, as you surely recognize that the NFF currently maintains a sponsorship contract with a rival company. This publication aims to undermine our client’s relationships with its partners and sponsors, resulting in a loss of revenue while taking advantage of the NFF brand's goodwill and the achievements of the Super Eagles to boost your business visibility."

The NFF conveyed its dissatisfaction with Airtel’s actions through its legal representatives, urging exploration of all legal avenues for redress.

The NFF's solicitors proceeded to demand that Airtel promptly remove the contested posts from its Instagram and all associated social media accounts, halt any further similar publications, and pay a sum of N1 billion as compensation for losses incurred, including loss of reputation and revenue due to this situation.
