Nigeria has successfully obtained a $100 million investment from the
European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to support Project Bridge, a national connectivity initiative.
Project Bridge is designed to enhance digital infrastructure and promote internet integration throughout the country, with an additional €22 million contribution from the European Union for a digital economy package.
The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, announced the investment in a statement released on Wednesday.
In August 2025, the federal government launched Project Bridge, which aims to extend high-speed internet access by deploying extensive fiber-optic networks in underserved and unserved areas.
According to the government's plan, the anticipated 90,000 kilometers of fiber-optic infrastructure will significantly enhance affordable and reliable broadband connectivity nationwide.
During a statement on Wednesday, the minister indicated that the funds were secured following the 'Project BRIDGE' Investment Tour conducted in European countries and fruitful discussions with EBRD stakeholders.
Minister Tijani confirmed that this new funding supplements the already sanctioned $500 million financing from the World Bank for Project Bridge.
"As we finalize the last segment of our Project BRIDGE Investment Tour in Europe this week, based on many positive engagements, I am happy to announce the official approval by the Board of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for a $100 million investment in Project BRIDGE," he stated.
“This investment is in addition to the previously sanctioned $500 million financing from the World Bank for the project," he added.
Additionally, Minister Tijani clarified that the newly secured €22 million from the European Union is part of a €45 million arrangement reached earlier under the European Union Digital Economy Package.
He mentioned that the agreement with the EU includes €18 million for Digital Public Services and €5 million aimed at supporting the 3MTT Nigeria Programme.
Tijani also reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to ensuring the timely completion of Project Bridge, emphasizing its potential for transforming the digital landscape of Nigeria.
"These approvals are highly encouraging as we reflect on the substantial effort and travel across six countries in two weeks required to establish the partnerships necessary for deploying 90,000 kilometers of fiber throughout Nigeria, enhancing connectivity for all citizens," the minister concluded.
