The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in Nigeria has announced that it will host an important health security dialogue on pandemic preparedness and response in Abuja on Monday.
Entitled "Lessons on Pandemic Preparedness and Response: Insights from China and Nigeria," this dialogue will gather key government officials, global health organizations, policymakers, and scientists from both Nigeria and the People's Republic of China.
As nations strive to improve their readiness for potential future health crises in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, this event is set to foster the exchange of practical lessons and promote collaboration towards more resilient health systems.
According to a statement from Ado Bako, Assistant Director of Information & Public Relations, the discussions will emphasize crucial areas such as enhancing disease surveillance and early warning mechanisms, improving coordination for emergency responses, strengthening health system resilience, building community trust, risk communication, and promoting international collaboration for effective pandemic preparedness.
Additionally, the event will look into ways to deepen collaboration between Nigeria and China in fields such as public health research and innovation, laboratory systems, pathogen surveillance, technology transfer, and capacity building to effectively address cross-border health threats.
Bako also outlined expected outcomes from the discussions, including policy recommendations aimed at bolstering pandemic preparedness, improved bilateral partnerships between Nigeria and China, and strategic recommendations to influence both national and global health security strategies.
The event will feature presentations from high-ranking government officials, a keynote address by a prominent expert in global health, along with panel discussions involving both Nigerian and international specialists.
