Emerald Chizy, a Nigerian woman, has publicly recounted her experience following the finalisation of her divorce, which concluded a challenging four- year legal dispute.
In a series of social media posts made on Wednesday, Emerald detailed the profound emotional, financial, and psychological impact the divorce proceedings had on her.
She revealed that the court case was fraught with fabricated accusations, threats, and harassment, including claims from her former husband that she had engaged in infidelity.
Emerald also stated that her ex-husband, despite having remarried during their period of separation, which constitutes bigamy, allegedly expressed intentions to prolong the court proceedings in an effort to force her to abandon the case.
Reflecting on her marriage, which she likened to a period of immense suffering, Emerald noted that she appeared significantly older than her age, looking like a 72-year-old while in her late twenties.
She provided a timeline of her marital journey: "Married = 2014. Had the twins = 2016. Separated = 2019. Filed for divorce = 2022. Got divorced = 2026."
Elaborating on the duration and intensity of the legal battle, she stated, "I was in and out of court for 4 years. I spent money that ran into millions. I fought a battle that put my life on the line."
She further described the severe consequences of the ordeal: "My mental health was a disaster, my finances almost crumbled."
Despite encouragement from friends and family to cease the legal action, Emerald persevered. "Out of care and concern, friends and family started discouraging me to give up the case. But I persevered, and God prevailed. May God be praised. #mydivorcejourney."
