The Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has reported the apprehension of two men in connection with alleged incidents of r@pe and defilement targeting minors in Akure. These arrests stem from separate cases occurring recently in the state capital.
SC Daniel Aidamenbor, the Head of Media and Public Relations for the command, announced the development in a statement released on Wednesday, April 15, 2026. He detailed that a 22-year-old farmer identified as Emeka Chidi Innocent is accused of r@ping a 13-year-old girl on March 3. In a second, distinct case, a 38-year-old tiler named Ayodele John is alleged to have defiled a 15-year-old girl within her family home on April 13.
Aidamenbor indicated that initial investigations suggest both accused individuals were acquainted with the victims and their respective families before the alleged offences took place. This detail has raised concerns regarding trust and access within the community.
Under the direction of Commandant Oluyemi Ibiloye, JP, the NSCDC Ondo State Command has urged parents and guardians to enhance their vigilance in protecting children and wards. The statement emphasized the command's strong commitment to defending vulnerable members of society, particularly minors, and ensuring that those responsible for sexual and gender-based violence face legal consequences.
Further details provided by the command outlined that Emeka Chidi Innocent, after the alleged r@pe incident on March 3 in the SIB, Igbatoro area of Akure, had evaded capture for several weeks. However, through intelligence gathering and persistent surveillance, NSCDC operatives successfully located and arrested him in Idanre. He is currently being held for ongoing investigations.
In the case of Ayodele John, the 38-year-old tiler, the alleged defilement of the 15-year-old minor occurred at her parents' residence on Oda Road, Akure. The NSCDC operatives apprehended the suspect on April 14, less than 24 hours after the report of the incident was filed.
Both suspects have reportedly provided confessional statements regarding the accusations. The NSCDC is in the final stages of its investigation and intends to charge both individuals in court.
The command assured the public that it would pursue diligent prosecution to achieve justice and deter similar criminal acts. It reiterated its advisory for parents and guardians to maintain a high level of watchfulness over their children, suggesting thorough background checks for individuals, such as artisans and domestic staff, who are granted access to households.
The NSCDC stressed the importance of active parental supervision, describing it as a crucial safeguard against abuse, and stated that these responsibilities should not be neglected or delegated.
The NSCDC Ondo State Command affirmed its zero-tolerance policy towards rape, defilement, and all forms of sexual violence. The Corps reiterated its dedication to its mandate of protecting lives and property and will continue to allocate resources to combat crimes affecting vulnerable individuals.
The public is encouraged to report any suspicious activities or incidents promptly to the nearest NSCDC office or other appropriate security agencies.
