Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, on Thursday officially opened Phase II of the Imashayi–Igan-Okoto–Ayetoro Road, located in the Yewa North Local Government Area. During the commissioning event, Governor Abiodun reiterated his administration's resolve to see the project through to completion, assuring residents that the final phase would be concluded to establish full connectivity to Ayetoro. This development is anticipated to enhance transportation and stimulate economic growth in the area.

Governor Abiodun also directed the Ministry of Housing to conduct an immediate assessment of the Youth Development Centre within the local government area, with a view to commencing its renovation and upgrade for the benefit of the youth in the community.

While acknowledging that the state has a multitude of roads requiring reconstruction, Governor Abiodun stressed that his government remains committed to delivering road infrastructure across all three senatorial districts until the end of his term.

Highlighting Yewa North's significance as a major agricultural hub in the state, the governor underscored the importance of linking farming communities to urban centers. This linkage, he explained, is crucial for efficiently transporting agricultural produce from farms to markets.

Governor Abiodun further stated that his administration is dedicated to the infrastructural and economic advancement of Yewaland and the Ogun West region, noting that this area, which has historically been underserved, is now receiving the attention it merits.

He elaborated that the state has completed over 20 road projects in Yewaland and Ogun West. While the quantity might seem modest, many of these projects are extensive, comparable to six or seven individual road projects in other senatorial districts. He cited the Agbara–Atan–Lusada Road, a 20-kilometer dual carriageway, as an example of a single project, along with others like the Ilaro–Owode Road and roads recently awarded or soon to be tendered.

The governor pledged that his administration would continue to provide effective, impactful, and inclusive leadership through the implementation of sound micro and macroeconomic policies.

Governor Abiodun also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for implementing significant economic reforms, which he believes are beginning to show positive results and are vital for repositioning the nation's economy.

He specifically praised the President for the ongoing construction of the 1,000-kilometer Badagry–Sokoto Highway. According to the governor, once finished, this highway will drastically reduce the travel time between Imeko and Lagos to under an hour.

"I want to express my gratitude to Mr President. Without your leadership, many states would have faced insolvency. We appreciate the stable fuel supply and the improving exchange rate. Today, Ogun State stands as Nigeria's preferred destination for investors and boasts the fastest-growing economy," he remarked.

In his address, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Ade Akinsanya, detailed that Phase II of the 21-kilometer Imashayi–Igan-Okoto–Ayetoro Road includes the construction of reinforced concrete structures in areas prone to flooding, designed to prevent erosion. He mentioned that the project was strategically divided into three phases to ensure efficient execution.

Mr Akinsanya highlighted the road's critical role in connecting Ayetoro with other towns within the state. He added that its rehabilitation has facilitated the movement of farm produce, improved service delivery, bolstered security, and enhanced the overall quality of life for residents.

The Iyaloja General of Ogun State, Chief (Mrs) Yemisi Abass, lauded Governor Abiodun for fulfilling his promise to complete the second phase of the road, a commitment made during the commissioning of the first phase. She urged him to ensure the completion of the final phase to further foster development in the area.

Similarly, the Chairman of Yewa North Local Government, Dr Olusola Akinbode, commended the governor for the road project, noting its potential to significantly support local farmers. He disclosed that the local government distributed 11,000 cash crop seedlings last year and plans to distribute approximately 30,000 cocoa, cashew, and palm seedlings this year.

Hon Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, the representative for Yewa North/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, also praised the governor for delivering on his promise of improving residents' lives through infrastructure development. He described the road's reconstruction as a substantial relief for communities along the route, which had been neglected by previous administrations.

The Adokun of Igan-Okoto, Oba Mukaila Akanbi Salako, expressed his appreciation to Governor Abiodun for connecting the community to Ayetoro and appealed for the swift completion of the third and final phase of the 21-kilometer Imashayi–Igan-Okoto–Ayetoro road.
