Corps Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin, who shared these statistics during the 2026 First Quarter Durbar and award recognition event, remarked on the positive trend in road safety.

Additionally, he reported that the number of individuals involved in accidents decreased from 1,582 to 1,172. This improvement has been linked to intensified enforcement and road safety initiatives within the state.

“Comparing the first quarters of 2025 and 2026, we see significant advancements in road safety metrics,” Fasakin stated. “The fatalities reduced from 98 in 2025 to 80 in 2026, while the number of injuries fell from 488 to 366. Overall, the total individuals involved in crashes declined from 1,582 to 1,172.”

Despite this progress, Commander Fasakin expressed alarm over the increase in traffic violations, with 9,661 offenders apprehended in the initial three months of the year.

“Statistics reveal a rise in detected traffic offences, notably increasing from 7,647 in 2025 to 11,717 in 2026, and the number of captured violators rose from 6,822 to 9,661,” he mentioned.

Fasakin stressed the importance of ongoing public education to foster a stronger culture of road safety among citizens. He also shared the command's key achievements under his leadership, which include the establishment of a standard quarter guard and the asphalting of the command’s facilities, while advocating for enhanced funding and capacity-building efforts.
