In a tragic incident, it has been reported that over 150 suspected bandits drowned after a boat transporting them overturned in the Sabon Gida area of Sokoto State.

Eyewitness accounts shared with security analyst Zagazola Makama revealed that the mishap occurred on Saturday evening, March 21, 2026, as the vessel, carrying numerous armed individuals, capsized while traversing a waterway in the region.

Local sources indicated that a significant number of bandits were aboard when the boat unexpectedly flipped, plunging all those on board into the water.

"Initial reports suggest that many of them lacked swimming skills, resulting in serious fatalities," one source mentioned.

While it has been indicated that none of the passengers survived, official confirmation from security agencies was still pending at the time of this report.

If verified, this development could represent a substantial setback for criminal factions operating within parts of the North-Western region, the security analyst noted.
