The Oyo State government has fulfilled its promise to assist victims of the Bode market fire disaster by distributing N100 million to over 400 affected traders in Ibadan. Each beneficiary received N250,000 to help restart their businesses during a disbursement event held at the market.

The Oyo State Government has successfully fulfilled its financial commitment to traders affected by the recent fire outbreak at the popular Bode market, disbursing a total of N100 million to cushion the hardship caused by the disaster.

At the official distribution event held within the market premises located in Ibadan South-West Local Government Area, exactly 400 registered victims were given N250,000 each to aid their economic recovery.

While handing out the cheques to the recipients, the Chairman of the local government, Kehinde Adeyemi Akande, lauded Governor Seyi Makinde for swiftly coming to the aid of the struggling merchants.

"This intervention is designed to significantly mitigate the heavy losses suffered by more than 400 traders whose primary sources of income were destroyed by the inferno," Akande stated, emphasizing the administration's prompt response to public emergencies.

How Will the Funds Impact the Traders?

The financial relief is expected to serve as a vital lifeline for market women and other entrepreneurs, enabling them to restock their shops and resume commercial activities. Akande admonished the beneficiaries to apply the funds prudently toward rebuilding their enterprises, while reiterating the local council's dedication to grassroots welfare.

Market leaders, including the Babaloja and Iyaloja of Bode market, identified as Adeniran and Fatima, expressed deep gratitude to Governor Makinde and local authorities for keeping their promise. They assured the government of their continued backing.

Background Context on the Disaster and Support

The intervention follows a devastating fire incident that razed sections of the bustling Bode market, destroying goods worth millions of naira and leaving numerous traders stranded. The state government's latest payout comes on the heels of earlier donations from other public figures, such as Honourable Oseni, who previously contributed N20 million to the victims alongside promises of federal assistance.
