Ondo Police Dismantle Fake US Dollar Ring, Recover Bags of Counterfeit Notes

Ondo State police operatives have uncovered a counterfeit currency printing syndicate in Kiniso village, arresting one suspect and seizing three bags of fake US dollar bills following a botched exchange deal.

Operatives attached to the Ondo State Police Command have successfully dismantled a suspected fake currency manufacturing ring operating within Kiniso village, situated in the Ajue axis of Odigbo Local Government Area in Ondo State. During the targeted raid, law enforcement officers apprehended one individual and seized three sacks loaded with fake United States dollar bills.

Providing details regarding the law enforcement action, the command's spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, noted that the intervention followed a formal report submitted at a police station by Yusuf Nasiru, a resident of the Sabo area in Okitipupa.

What led to the police raid in Kiniso village?

According to the police account, the informant stated that two individuals—subsequently identified as Peter Desmond and Olami Toro, who both hail from Ode-Irele—visited his business premises to negotiate the exchange of foreign currency for the Nigerian naira.

Key facts from the investigation include:

  • The complainant handed over $6,000 in cash, estimated to be worth around N8,600,000, to the visiting men.
  • While awaiting the naira payout, the suspects handed the dollar bills back, excusing themselves by claiming they lacked enough cash to finalise the trade before departing.
  • Upon a thorough inspection of the returned notes, the trader realized the foreign currency was forged and immediately alerted local law enforcement.

Police authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing to apprehend fleeing members of the syndicate and bring all culprits to justice.
