Beginning November 11, 2026, the Oyo State Government will commence its bursary screening exercise for final-year indigenes enrolled in public tertiary institutions across Nigeria, running through November 27, 2026. Managed by the Oyo State Scholarship Board, the verification targets only candidates who successfully met all preliminary online registration criteria.
According to Mr Niyi Akinyanju, the Secretary of the Board, completing the digital application form alone did not guarantee a spot in the screening phase. Only candidates meeting strict compliance standards received shortlisted status.
What are the screening guidelines and formats?
To ease administrative processes, the Board introduced a dual approach featuring both physical and online verification modes. Candidates schooling within the South-West geopolitical region must attend physical sessions regardless of their residential base. Meanwhile, students schooling outside the South-West region can opt for either physical or digital verification based on convenience.
For those utilizing the online portal, Akinyanju urged them to keep their registered mobile lines switched on and accessible throughout their assigned dates for real-time verification.
Where and when does physical screening take place?
Physical verification exercises will hold on weekdays between Monday and Friday, starting daily at 10:00 a.m. at Room 83 of the Oyo State Scholarship Board, situated within the Ministry of Education at the Secretariat, Ibadan.
The schedule outlines distinct dates for various academic categories:
- Colleges of Education: November 11 to 12
- Higher National Diploma (HND) candidates: November 13 to 17
- University undergraduates: November 18 to 26
- Clinical and allied medical students: November 25 to 26
- Maritime and aviation students: November 27
What documents are required for verification?
Candidates must present authentic and complete copies of specific credentials, which include Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) admission letters, local government identification certificates, final-year course registration forms, recent passport snapshots, institutional ID cards, and proof of annual Federation of Oyo State Students Union (FOSSU) dues.
Highlighting the objective behind the digital option, the administration noted that leveraging technology helps eliminate bureaucratic delays and improves public service delivery for beneficiaries. The Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, emphasized that Governor Seyi Makinde's administration remains steadfast in driving educational advancement and backing the scholarly pursuits of state indigenes through continuous financial interventions.
