A passenger plane with 55 occupants successfully avoided disaster after it made an emergency landing on a beach in Somalia. This event unfolded when the aircraft overran the runway and ended up in shallow waters during the landing procedure.

No injuries were reported following the incident that took place near Somalia's primary airport on Tuesday, February 10.

The flight, operated by Starsky Aviation, had departed from Aden Abdulle International Airport in Mogadishu and was en route to the northern city of Gaalkacyo when it encountered a technical malfunction approximately 15 minutes after takeoff.

The pilot made the decision to return to the airport for an emergency landing. However, he inadvertently overshot the runway, veering off course, and ultimately came to rest on the beach along the Indian Ocean.

All 50 passengers and five crew members successfully evacuated the Fokker 50 aircraft. According to Mohamed Farah Nuh, the Minister of Transportation, a rescue team verified that everyone onboard was accounted for.

Images from the site depicted the plane, which suffered a broken wing yet remained structurally intact, lying on the beach.

Ahmed Nur, the CEO of Starsky Aviation, confirmed, "the aircraft overran on the runway" before finally stopping at the ocean's shoreline close to the airport. He emphasized that there were "no injuries, no deaths."

The Somali Civil Aviation Authority released a statement noting that at 1:17 PM local time (10:17 AM UK time), an aircraft identified by registration number 60-YAS, a F50, was involved in a runway overrun at Mogadishu's Aden Abdulle International Airport.

The statement highlighted that all 55 individuals aboard survived the situation and were quickly taken to a nearby hospital for precautionary medical checks and treatment. "No fatalities have been recorded," the authority remarked.
