Residents of Special Site in Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State have voiced their shock and anger following the gruesome discovery of aborted twins discarded in a refuse dump within their community.
The incident, which took place on Wednesday, left many locals visibly upset, with several describing the scene as both heartbreaking and incredibly disturbing.
The foetuses, believed to be around five months gestational age and identified as a male and female, were reportedly discovered inside a polythene bag at the dump site located behind a residential area.
Enman Danladi, a resident whose home is situated close to the refuse site, shared details about the event. "As a commercial driver serving the town, upon returning from my work, a man who was doing irrigation farming behind my house approached me regarding what he had observed," he recounted.
"He mentioned noticing a dog sniffing at a polythene bag with flies buzzing around it, which raised his suspicion. After scaring the dog away, he examined the bag and found the twins before rushing to inform me."
Danladi quickly alerted other neighbors, and about eight residents convened at the scene soon afterward.
"We all went there and verified what he had witnessed. The sight was deeply painful," he added.
The community opted to bury the foetuses near the dump site, and prior to the burial, some residents expressed their outrage and condemned the act's perpetrator. "The women were particularly emotional, and some even broke down in tears," Danladi stated.
When inquired if any suspect was identified, he indicated that no one has been singled out. "Such actions are often carried out by individuals not from the immediate vicinity, making it challenging to trace those responsible," he noted.
Danladi indicated that the incident has cast a pall over the community, stating, "Since the discovery, there has been a heavy atmosphere in the area. People are visibly shaken, especially the women."
He also confirmed that the matter has not been brought to the attention of authorities, as residents collectively agreed to proceed with the burial of the foetuses.
