Pope Leo XIV spoke about the escalating concerns in the Middle East following his weekly Angelus prayer in St. Peter's Square.
While addressing the multitude of pilgrims gathered at St. Peter’s Square, Pope Leo XIV highlighted the current crisis in the region, emphasizing the considerable toll it has taken on innocent lives.
He remarked that the levels of death and suffering have created a profound 'scandal to the entire human family.' The Pope reiterated his call for an immediate ceasefire to alleviate the ongoing turmoil.
"In the face of the suffering endured by so many individuals, particularly the vulnerable victims of these conflicts, remaining silent is not an option. The pain they endure resonates with all of humanity," stated Leo during his Angelus prayer.
Pope Leo emphasized that the devastation, loss of life, and anguish inflicted by these wars represents a collective scandal and is a plea before God. He encouraged everyone to maintain their prayers, hoping for an end to hostilities and for a genuine commitment to dialogue that respects the dignity of every individual to emerge.
He further added, "I renew my strong appeal for persistence in prayer, so that hostilities may come to an end and the path to peace may finally be cleared."
