Priscilla Ojo, a well-known social media influencer, has reacted strongly to a misleading quote circulating online that falsely attributes a statement to her regarding postpartum depression.
On Friday, she took to her Instagram story to refute a post from a user on X, who claimed that Ojo stated postpartum depression is merely an illusion brought on by poverty.
The viral post suggested that during a discussion concerning marriage after childbirth, Ojo asserted that she had not experienced postpartum depression, claiming her affection for her husband had only increased. The quote continued by asserting that she viewed postpartum depression as an illusion caused by a lack of financial resources.
In response to this misleading information, Ojo described such assertions as both insensitive and degrading towards mothers.
"I never said this; what's wrong with Twitter users? Be prepared to back up your claims with evidence!" she stated emphatically.
She further criticized the claim, stating, "What do you mean I said ‘postpartum is an illusion caused by poverty’? That is disrespectful to mothers and extremely insensitive."
Ojo's remarks come in light of ongoing discussions surrounding mental health issues affecting new mothers, underscoring the importance of support and understanding during the postpartum period.
The controversy surrounding her alleged quote illustrates the challenges public figures face in managing their image and the misinformation that can easily spread on social media.
