Yousef Albalawi, the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Nigeria, has indicated that Saudi airlines are set to recommence flight operations between Jeddah and Abuja. The flights are anticipated to resume by June 2026 or, at the latest, by January 2027.

This announcement was made on a Wednesday during Ambassador Albalawi's courtesy visit to Nigeria's Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, at his office in Abuja. The discussions focused on strengthening the existing ties between Saudi Arabia and Nigeria and exploring opportunities for expanded collaboration across economic, political, and security domains.

"We will also continue to facilitate services for all Nigerian citizens who wish to perform Umrah and Hajj," Ambassador Albalawi added, underscoring the commitment to religious pilgrimages.

He further stated his intention to collaborate with the ministry and the media to counter any misinformation concerning Saudi Arabia and to promote a more accurate portrayal of the nation. "We share common values and maintain a historical relationship with Nigeria," he remarked.

In his response, Minister Idris acknowledged the visit, emphasizing that it highlighted the significance Saudi Arabia places on Nigeria’s Ministry of Information and National Orientation and reaffirmed the strong existing relationship between the two countries. He expressed the Nigerian government's readiness to deepen cooperation with Saudi Arabia, particularly in economic and security matters.

Minister Idris also shared that the federal government has given its approval for three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) proposed by the Saudi government. These agreements are designed to foster greater collaboration in key areas.

Specifically, one MoU will focus on news exchange initiatives between the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) and the Saudi Press Agency. Another agreement will facilitate cooperation in radio and television broadcasting between the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the Saudi Broadcasting Authority.

The third MoU pertains to audiovisual media collaboration, involving Saudi Arabia’s General Commission for Audiovisual Media and Nigeria’s National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).

Minister Idris concluded by mentioning that a follow-up meeting between him and his Saudi counterpart is scheduled to take place soon, aimed at advancing the implementation of these signed agreements.
