Stefano Gabbana, one of the principal co-founders of the renowned fashion company Dolce & Gabbana, has relinquished his role as the company's chairman. This transition took effect on January 1st, and while he has stepped down from corporate leadership, he remains an integral part of the brand's creative endeavors.
A spokesperson for the fashion house confirmed that the 63-year-old's departure from his chairman duties is part of a planned organisational and governance evolution. The company indicated that this move represents a 'natural process' in its ongoing development.
Gabbana established the Dolce & Gabbana brand in 1985 alongside his business partner, Domenico Dolce. Together, they cultivated the company into one of the most recognizable and influential luxury labels globally.
Following Gabbana's resignation from the chairmanship, the leadership position has been assumed by Alfonso Dolce. Alfonso is the current chief executive of the company and is the brother of Domenico Dolce.
Additionally, reports indicate that Stefano Gabbana is exploring his options concerning his 40% ownership stake in the business. This development coincides with the company's ongoing discussions with lenders regarding the refinancing of approximately €450 million in debt. The company has stated that these negotiations are still in progress and offered no further commentary on the matter.
Despite these structural changes in corporate leadership, Gabbana's creative involvement with Dolce & Gabbana will persist. The brand continues to be a significant player in the international fashion scene, celebrated for its distinctive designs and its association with numerous high-profile celebrities, including the iconic Madonna.
