Allegations of clinical negligence are emerging against a medical facility as a woman claims that a surgical cloth was left inside her abdomen after an operation.
Sheeba Pramod, who resides in Menamkulam, Kazhakkoottam, underwent an emergency appendectomy at CSI Mission Hospital on December 3. After being discharged nine days later, she encountered difficulties in her recovery, enduring three months of 'unbearable agony' and significant mental distress.
Her surgical site did not heal properly, and plagued by ongoing pain, she eventually sought a second medical opinion at another private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram.
Diagnostic imaging revealed a startling cause for her health issues: a foreign object, specifically identified as a surgical cloth or gauze, had been stitched into her abdominal cavity, leading to a small perforation at the wound site.
She returned to the initial hospital, where another surgical procedure was carried out to remove the inserted object.
Distressing videos have surfaced, reportedly capturing the moment when the blood-stained cloth was taken from the infected wound.
Hospital senior management has stated that they were 'unaware' of how the cloth could have entered her body, suggesting it might have been forgotten while Sheeba visited other medical institutions for pain alleviation.
With dissatisfaction towards the hospital's account, Sheeba’s family has taken further action, escalating their concerns.
They lodged a formal complaint with the Chief Minister’s office, calling for a thorough investigation into the incident.
'We demand strict accountability for the three months of unnecessary suffering,' Sheeba asserted vigorously.
The family is currently pursuing extensive legal action against the hospital for malpractice.
