Non-academic personnel at the Taraba State University, Jalingo, have given the state administration a 14-day ultimatum to enforce the Consolidated Non-Teaching Tools Allowance, popularly known as CONTTA, or face a complete and indefinite industrial shutdown.
This ultimatum was formalized in an official resolution released by the local chapter of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, following an urgent congress gathering convened on Thursday.
Within the document, the labor union voiced deep frustration regarding the prolonged foot-dragging by the Taraba State authorities in rolling out the allowance, pointing out that numerous administrative committees had previously met and given unfulfilled promises.
According to the union leadership, their members have maintained extreme restraint while anticipating the realization of terms originally brokered between the federal authorities and the university unions, noting with regret that this long-suffering approach has produced no tangible outcomes.
Consequently, the umbrella body has slammed a definitive 14-day deadline on the government to ensure the prompt disbursement of the requested welfare package to forestall a paralyzed academic environment.
Furthermore, the association drew comparisons to other state-run tertiary institutions where the same agreement has already taken effect, listing establishments such as Adamawa State University in Mubi, Sa'adu Zungur University in Bauchi, Gombe State University, Nasarawa State University in Keffi, Kwara State University in Malete, Ekiti State University in Ado-Ekiti, and Osun State University in Osogbo.
The formal notice was jointly endorsed and authenticated by the branch chairperson, Bitrus Joseph Ajibauka, alongside the secretary, Offen Stephen Noseh, acting on behalf of the aggrieved university workers.
