Gianna Kistenmacher, an 18-year-old cheerleader facing a murder charge over the 2025 fatal shooting of her 16-year-old boyfriend, Trey Wright, has petitioned a court to loosen her bond restrictions. The legal application aims to permit her to apply to alternative higher education institutions and potentially reside in student accommodation.
According to court documents, Kistenmacher filed a formal motion requesting the elimination of her electronic GPS monitoring and overnight curfew, alongside permission to access social media platforms. Law enforcement investigators allege that she transported Devan Raper to the victim's residence while aware that Raper was carrying a weapon and that a physical confrontation was anticipated.
What led to the fatal confrontation?
Reports indicate that the tragedy stemmed from a digital dispute between Wright and Raper concerning Raper spending time with Kistenmacher. Authorities stated that a group of nine teenagers journeyed to Wright's property. As the victim walked toward the automobile carrying Raper, Raper allegedly discharged a firearm into Wright's chest, resulting in his death.
Despite facing a murder indictment, Kistenmacher's defense counsel has strongly contested claims that she coordinated the altercation or engineered the fatal outcome. In her recent bond review application, Kistenmacher emphasized that she has strictly abided by every restriction imposed since her release from custody on July 28, 2025.
How is her education affected?
Kistenmacher is currently enrolled at a regional college. Earlier in February, a presiding judge transitioned her status from house arrest to a standard overnight curfew. Her legal team is now pressing for broader freedom to advance her academic pursuits, which includes seeking admission to external schools and residing within campus dormitories.
Previously, her defense attorneys highlighted that she traveled to the medical facility following the shooting to stay close to Wright, pointing to this action as evidence contradicting claims that she plotted the attack. Judicial authorities have not yet issued a definitive ruling on the latest bond adjustment request, and the legal proceedings remain ongoing.
