A terrorist attack has compelled over 1,000 inhabitants of the Koro community in Ekiti Local Government Area to evacuate to Ilorin in search of safety.

Just recently, two engineers from the Kwara State Ministry of Works returned home after being abducted alongside five other workers from a construction company. The group was taken captive weeks ago by suspected militants in the Owa Onire area of Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

In response to the abductions, the Kwara State Government has been active in ensuring the safe release of the victims, increasing concerns regarding their safety.

On Monday, the Commissioner for Works, Engineer Abduquawiy Olododo, announced that the seven captives were freed without injury.

A view of Kwara State affected by recent insecurity issues

Olododo expressed gratitude to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his leadership and ongoing efforts that played a crucial role in the successful release of the abductees.

He also acknowledged the support of security agencies and other stakeholders during what he described as a challenging period, urging law enforcement to enhance measures against banditry and terrorism in the state.

In another troubling development, the recent violence forced approximately 1,000 residents from Koro to flee their homes following an attack by armed men last Sunday.

Reports indicate that one individual lost their life during a gunfire exchange between suspected militants and local forest guards in the area.

Following the assault, security personnel were dispatched to the region to safeguard lives and properties. However, many residents had already departed to avoid any further threats.

Some of those displaced found temporary shelter with friends and family members in Ilorin. Affected individuals recounted the trauma of the incident, stating it was the primary reason for their flight.

One displaced resident, speaking under anonymity, shared, "I am currently lodging with a relative in Ilorin. I cannot endure such an ordeal again," stressing that numerous others had also deserted the area due to fear and unpredictability.

She called upon federal and state authorities to take immediate action in combating insecurity and restoring peace in the affected regions.
