President Bola Tinubu has expressed his congratulations to Nigerian artists who secured victories at the 9th edition of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), indicating that their achievements are a testament to the growing influence of Nigeria’s music and creative industry on a global scale.
The President lauded the artists for representing the nation with pride on a continental platform. He noted that their successes at AFRIMA reflect not only the strength and creativity of Nigerian youth but also the increasing impact of the country in both African and global music circles.
Nigerian artists had a successful showing at the 9th AFRIMA, which took place from January 7-11, 2026, and was hosted in Lagos State, as designated by the African Union Commission on April 9, 2025, during its meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Rema was awarded the title of Artiste of the Year, along with accolades for Best Male Artiste in Western Africa and Best African RnB & Soul. Burna Boy won Album of the Year while Shallipopi took home both Song of the Year and Best African Collaboration with Burna Boy. Phyno received the honor of Best African Hip-Hop, Qing Madi was recognized as Most Promising Artiste, and Yemi Alade was awarded for Best Soundtrack. Additionally, Chella was named African Fans’ Favourite, while Kenny Ogungbe and Dayo Adeneye were honored with the AFRIMA Legendary Award.
According to Tinubu, the honors collected by Nigerian artists at the awards ceremony are the result of years of dedication, talent, and sustained effort. He emphasized that Nigerian music has become a significant voice for the nation throughout Africa and beyond.
He remarked that international platforms like AFRIMA play a crucial role in showcasing African talent and fostering competition at elevated levels.

Your triumphs on such an important continental platform represent a proud moment for our country and strongly illustrate the depth of creativity, talent, and hard work that characterize Nigeria’s music sector."
The President further acknowledged Lagos State as the Official Host City of the 9th AFRIMA, praising the state government for successfully organizing a world-class event.
