A tragic fire outbreak in the Gida Dubu neighborhood of Dutse, Jigawa State, has led to the loss of two young lives, ages 2 and 6.
The fire broke out at approximately 4:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2026, in an area known as Layin Dabinai, close to Masallacin Malam Babba, where it quickly engulfed the rooms where the children were sleeping.
The incident was confirmed by ASC Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud, a representative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), who stated that the victims were the children of Aminuddeen Abubakar, a lecturer at the Federal University of Dutse (FUD).
In a separate event on the same day, another fire incident occurred in the same locality, fortunately without any casualties.
The NSCDC's statement explained, "We regret to announce two separate fire incidents on Thursday, March 19, 2026, in the Gida Dubu area, leading to loss of lives and property damage."
The first fire broke out in the early hours, reportedly beginning under circumstances that are still under investigation. It spread rapidly, consuming the rooms occupied by the children of Aminuddeen Abubakar, who were tragically confirmed dead on the scene.
"Emergency response efforts were prompt; however, the ferocity of the fire made it impossible to rescue the children, both aged 2 and 6," the statement elaborated.
Later in the day, another fire was recorded around 12:00 noon in the same Gida Dubu area. Initial investigations indicate it was caused by an electrical spark in the kitchen of a local resident, Nura Garba, also known as Dangwan Gwan.
This flare-up spread to other houses, affecting properties belonging to Mu’azu Garba and Mohammed Aliyu, also known as Jaujen Hadejia, damaging their roofs and kitchens, though no lives were lost due to a timely response from firefighting teams.
While the cause of the early morning fire remains unverified, the NSCDC has committed to investigating both incidents thoroughly to prevent future tragedies.
The NSCDC extends heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and encourages local residents to maintain vigilance regarding fire safety practices, especially concerning electrical appliances and flames. They stressed their commitment to ensuring safety and security across Jigawa State.
