The clash broke out on 11 March amidst tensions between young individuals from the Isabang and Alesi communities. This led to a security operation that resulted in several injuries and left both communities unsettled, as reported by Punch newspaper.

According to initial police statements, the altercation began from a conflict involving a miner named Ibrahim Musa and youths who were manning a checkpoint in a contested area between the two communities.
