Ukraine has extended an apology to Finland after two of its drones crashed in the southern region of the country, indicating that Russian interference may have caused them to stray off their intended flight paths. Georgiy Tykhy, a representative from Ukraine's foreign ministry, stated that the incident was unintended.

"There was no intention for any Ukrainian drones to enter Finnish airspace. We believe the most probable reason for this incident is interference from Russian electronic warfare systems. We have already conveyed our apologies to the Finnish authorities regarding this occurrence," Tykhy informed the media.

The drones fell near the town of Kouvola, leading Finnish officials to respond by dispatching a fighter jet to investigate the situation. The Finnish Defence Ministry confirmed that one drone crashed to the north of Kouvola, while the second landed to the east of the town.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky acknowledged that he had discussed the matter with Alexander Stubb, stating, "Alex and I have a mutual understanding of the situation. We are providing all necessary information to each other."

This incident emerges amidst a backdrop of heightened drone activity and warfare between Ukraine and Russia, as both nations have been increasingly utilizing unmanned aerial vehicles in operations that cross their borders. Finnish officials revealed that an F/A-18 Hornet was deployed for identification purposes following the incident while monitoring continues.
