A panel of United Nations experts has issued a strong appeal to nations worldwide, urging them to cease all military supplies to Israel. This demand is based on findings that Israel has purportedly contravened established international humanitarian and human rights regulations.
The group, comprising 19 special rapporteurs and independent experts, made this call in a statement released on Wednesday. They emphasized the need to halt arms transfers due to mounting evidence of violations.
According to the experts, recent Israeli actions, including strikes on Beirut, constitute a flagrant breach of the UN Charter and fundamental principles of international order, rather than acts of self-defence.
The statement detailed that the recent attacks resulted in numerous casualties, including children, and caused extensive damage to civilian infrastructure.
The UN experts specifically demanded that Israel immediately halt all military actions in Lebanon, adhere to the existing ceasefire framework and UN Security Council Resolution 1701, withdraw its forces, facilitate the safe return of displaced individuals, and engage in direct negotiations with Lebanon.
Furthermore, the experts called upon the United States to leverage its influence to ensure that Israel ceases its attacks on Lebanese civilians and infrastructure without delay.
Previous reports indicated that Israel's military operations in Lebanon had persisted even after a ceasefire, mediated by Pakistan, had been established between the US/Israel and Iran. An official statement from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office had clarified that the ceasefire agreement did not extend to Lebanon.
Reports from the previous week mentioned that the Israeli army had issued warnings for residents in southern Lebanon, particularly in the city of Tyre, to evacuate to areas north of the Zahrani River in anticipation of strikes.
