The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has announced that it has attained full accreditation for all its academic programmes from the National Universities Commission (NUC), a feat not achieved in many years. This announcement was made public by the Public Relations Officer of UNIBEN, Benedicta Ehanire, in a statement released to the press on Sunday in Benin City.
According to Ehanire, the accreditation, which represents a major milestone for the institution, was granted after a thorough accreditation exercise conducted by the NUC in October and November of 2025. The exercise covered all the university's faculties, schools, and centres.
The NUC conveyed the results of the accreditation in a letter dated April 7, addressed to the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the university.
In response to the accreditation, the VC, Edoba Omoregie, highlighted that this achievement is a testament to the persistent efforts and the institution's dedication to academic excellence. He stated that the success reflects the commitment of the university's management and staff to maintaining high educational standards and fostering academic distinction.
Mr. Omoregie extended his gratitude to the university's Senate, faculties, departments, and all relevant committees for their diligent work in ensuring that the institution met all the requirements for accreditation.
He reaffirmed his administration's commitment to enhancing both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, aligning with his established five-point agenda for the university.
The National Agency (NAN) reported that this full accreditation status, which is valid until 2030, places UNIBEN among universities that demonstrate strong adherence to national academic standards.
