The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in Zamfara State has officially prohibited 'signing out' carnivals and similar events from taking place in schools throughout the state.

This prohibition was communicated via a circular dated April 6, 2026, bearing the signature of the Commissioner for Education, Abdulmalik Abubakar Gajam. The circular was also distributed to Governor Dauda Lawal, various security agencies, and school administrators.

The ministry cited that these end-of-year activities, typically organized by graduating students, have increasingly been associated with instances of poor conduct, inappropriate behaviour, and actions that are contrary to the established moral and academic principles upheld in the state.

In response to this trend, the ministry has mandated an immediate cessation of all 'signing out' events. Furthermore, it has instructed that meetings involving relevant stakeholders within schools be convened to ensure strict adherence to this new directive.

The ministry has cautioned that any educators found to be facilitating or condoning these prohibited activities will be subject to disciplinary actions, which may include official queries, suspension from duties, or even demotion in rank.

Students who disregard this ban risk facing consequences that could involve the withholding or outright cancellation of their academic results, or potentially being required to repeat their final year of study.
