A musician employed to perform for elderly residents at a care home has been charged with rape following disturbing surveillance footage that showed him removing his clothes inside a patient’s room.

The footage depicts Jonathan Michael Alvarado, 39, undressing in the room of a 61-year-old woman who has lived at the facility in Los Angeles for several years after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.

In the unsettling video, Alvarado is seen taking off his clothes, later disposing of a condom in the trash can, and then dressing again. The shocking incident was recorded by cameras installed by the woman’s daughter, Camyl Anderson, who aimed to look after her mother’s well-being.

39-year-old musician Jonathan Michael Alvarado arrested after being caught on camera.

Describing her reaction to the June 2025 incident, she stated, "I just saw a man sitting on her bed, bending over, tying his shoes, and then he was walking out, and she was just left on her bed, nude."

Anderson immediately alerted law enforcement. Following the investigation, Alvarado was charged with two serious offenses: rape and elder abuse. It has been reported that Alvarado volunteered as a piano player at the location and was known for entertaining the residents.

“I couldn’t believe it, honestly. And then I was angry, and then I just screamed, and then I cried,” Anderson recounted in her response to the incident.

In the wake of this occurrence, a $25 million lawsuit has been initiated against the owners of The Palms La Mirada, where the assault took place.

The legal complaint states, "The June 10, 2025, attack was recorded in whole or in part through monitoring video and/or audio evidence." Additionally, it claims the assaults were not random acts but were facilitated by significant failures in various precautions, including access control, screening, supervision, and resident protection.

The Palms La Mirada released a statement indicating, "The safety and well- being of our residents is our top priority. We are disturbed by these allegations and will fully cooperate with any criminal investigation."
