A suspect has been detained by police for his involvement in the horrific rape and murder of an 11-year-old girl named Divine Mbarga Atangana in Cameroon.
The child's body was found last week in Nkoabang, a suburb of Yaoundé.
Local reports indicated that Divine went missing on March 18, 2026, after she left her grandmother's residence following a disagreement.
Her body was discovered the next day, March 19, in an unfinished building in the area, leading to widespread grief and anger among the local population.
Initial investigations revealed evidence of rape, as traces of sperm were identified on her body.
The shocking details of the case have prompted demands for a thorough investigation and justice for the young victim.
Within a week of the body being found, authorities arrested a suspect who is a married father of three and also a parent of one of Divine's classmates.
Sources indicate that the man was known to Divine, as she would sometimes visit him for school-related matters.
His arrest is considered a major step in the ongoing investigation, which has profoundly disturbed the local community.
As of now, law enforcement officials have not released an official statement regarding the formal charges or the current status of the inquiry.
