Abike Dabiri-Erewa, who chairs the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), revealed that Turkish officials were bemused to learn that President Bola Tinubu's brief stumble during his recent visit to Turkey received significant coverage in Nigeria.

Dabiri-Erewa made these remarks on January 28 while responding to a post on X (formerly Twitter) by a user named Oguntoye Opeyemi, also known as Equityoyo, who expressed discontent regarding the media attention given to the incident.

The X user pointed out that no media outlet in Turkey reported on President Tinubu's fall, yet it was widely featured in Nigerian news outlets.

In the post, the user remarked, "Not a single Turkish TV station reported the President's accidental slip because it's a non-issue! But Naija TV and National newspapers do."

Responding to this comment, Dabiri-Erewa stated, "Exactly. Here in Ankara, officials were surprised it was seen as a matter of importance in Nigerian media. One official described it as 'silly and mischievous' and emphasized how their country was largely focused on the remarkable success of President Tinubu's visit, which has been prominently covered in their media."
