The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised concerns regarding what it deems an untimely imposition of a curfew in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in anticipation of Saturday’s elections.

The party voiced its worries about the government's decision to restrict movements starting at 8 PM on Friday, arguing that this could negatively impact voter participation.

Bolaji Abdullahi, ADC spokesman, discussing concerns regarding the curfew

In a message shared on X, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, claimed that enforcing movement restrictions one day before the elections is designed to discourage voter engagement.

He pointed out that while some limitations on election day may be necessary for security purposes, it is customary for such restrictions to commence at midnight on the day of voting.

“We are troubled by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike’s, decision to put a curfew in place from 8 PM on Friday. The ADC wishes to formally express its strong disapproval of this hasty movement restriction,” Abdullahi stated.

He further emphasized, “Elections must occur in an environment that is not only secure but also clearly accessible and open to all eligible voters.”

According to the party, residents of Abuja should have the ability to travel safely to their polling stations, remain there until they have completed the voting process, and return home without any fear of harassment or movement restrictions.
