The people of Abiriba Enachioken have announced their complete endorsement of Abia State Governor Alex Otti, signalling their commitment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

On Easter Sunday, April 5th, a delegation comprising prominent Abiriba stakeholders and community leaders, led by Leslie Ebueme Ezikpe (Dike Eji Eje Mba Nde Abiriba), visited Governor Otti at his office. During the visit, they reaffirmed their steadfast support for his administration and pledged their dedication to working towards his re-election.

This development was detailed in a press release issued on April 5th by Njoku Ukoha, the chief press secretary to Governor Otti.

‘We’re mobilising extensively for your re-election’

Jackson Agbai Abba, speaking for the delegation, lauded the governor for his significant achievements and developmental strides across the state, especially in infrastructure.

He emphasised the strong backing of the Abiriba people for Governor Otti, clarifying that recent political actions by one of their kinsmen do not represent the community's unified stance.

“Abiriba people are 100% behind you. We are mobilising in all aspects – voters’ registration in Abiriba, Aba, Umuahia, Port Harcourt and Enugu, online party membership registration across the globe. We are going from compound to compound, house-to-house, churches and markets for sensitisation and enlightenment campaigns, including every legitimate effort, to ensure that your victory is guaranteed,” Mr Agbai stated.

Mr Agbai, a legal practitioner, also commended the completion of the asphalting of the Abiriba Ring-Road from the Roundabout to Oba Amogudu. He further appealed to Governor Otti to extend this asphalting to roads previously constructed using concrete, to preserve their surfaces.

He highlighted the substantial influence of Abiriba individuals within Aba's commercial landscape, noting that despite their dispersed population across various regions, their economic contributions and political awareness remain considerable.

Eleanya Ojuu Kalu, the Mayor of Ohafia Local Government Area, shared details of their voter mobilisation efforts, reporting that over 5,000 new voters have been registered in Abiriba through coordinated grassroots and diaspora initiatives.

He elaborated that targeted campaigns reached farm settlements, markets, schools, and urban areas, including Aba and Umuahia, where registration centres were strategically positioned.

James Agbagha Ochunkwo added that their visit symbolised the political harmony and ideological alignment between their community and the governor.

He stressed the strong loyalty of Abiriba youths and professionals, both domestically and internationally, affirming their unwavering support for Governor Otti and describing him as the epitome of good governance in Abia.

Governor Otti’s Response

Governor Otti acknowledged the visit and the expression of solidarity, calling it a meaningful gesture during the Easter season.

He reaffirmed his long-standing connection with the Abiriba people and recognised their valuable contributions to the state's socio-economic progress.

He stated that while individuals have the freedom to pursue their political aspirations, such personal decisions do not impact the collective relationship between his administration and the Abiriba community.

Mr Otti assured the delegation that their request concerning road infrastructure would be considered, particularly concerning support for ongoing community-led road projects. He promised that the state government would assist the community with asphalt overlaying for roads already completed with rigid cement technology.

He directed his Special Adviser on Trade and Commerce, Nwaka Inem, who hails from Abiriba, to collaborate with the Commissioner for Works to identify the relevant road sections.

Governor Otti further underscored the importance of citizen participation in the continuous voter registration process, urging eligible voters, especially those residing outside Abia, to return to the state during elections to exercise their democratic rights.

Present at the meeting were Mr Inem, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Trade and Commerce, along with other distinguished Abiriba indigenes.
