The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has condemned the call from unnamed civil society groups for the announcement of a state of emergency in Osun, which he regards as a last-ditch effort by former Governor Gboyega Oyetola and Bola Oyebamiji, who are evidently frustrated by their inability to disrupt the state.
In a statement released over the weekend, Governor Adeleke characterized the request as an extension of the failed strategy employed by the Osun chapter of the APC to usurp power after recurring disappointments in garnering the support of the Osun populace.
"We reaffirm widely known facts that the APC has been a significant source of unrest in the state, hampering local government functions, mismanaging local government funds, and unlawfully deploying police forces, making Oyetola and his allies the most detested figures in Osun's political landscape."
He continued, "The APC misappropriated local government funds, neglected their responsibilities, and wrongfully seized control of councils in an attempt to instigate conflict. This is a deliberate ploy to sow chaos and blame the Adeleke-led administration for it."
Despite facing overt confrontations and illegal actions from these groups, Adeleke asserts that he has managed to maintain order, noting, "The plea for a state of emergency reveals their exasperation and desperation."
He added, "The Osun APC has faltered in its malicious efforts to incite turmoil in Osun State; hence their appeal for an emergency declaration lacks any foundation or reasoning."
“How can the APC turn around and accuse Governor Adeleke of instigating a crisis in Osun when it was Oyetola and his network that orchestrated the present chaos at the local government level?"
Related news features discussions about allegations against Oyetola and calls from the Aviation Minister for actions concerning the relocation of Osun Airport.
Adeleke questioned, "How can anyone rationally hold Governor Adeleke accountable when the illegal chairpersons from the APC have unlawfully taken control of the local governments and have refused to step down after their self-endowed terms expired?"
He added, "How is the Governor to blame when it was the APC that misappropriated Osun local government funds, breaching financial statutes?"
In closing, he defended his actions, stating, "Who can fault Governor Adeleke, who has used state finances to support local employees that the illegal APC chairmen have left behind while prioritizing their own interests?"
