The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has deployed heightened security measures and banned drone operations and fireworks across Uyo ahead of President Bola Tinubu's scheduled visit on Friday, November 5, 2026. Authorities have also announced temporary traffic restrictions along major routes to ensure a hitch-free Presidential itinerary.

Ahead of the official visit by President Bola Tinubu to Akwa Ibom State on Friday, November 5, 2026, the state police command has reinforced security infrastructure across the region to guarantee a seamless presidential engagement. The Nigerian leader is scheduled to commission key infrastructure projects and participate in a strategic town hall meeting with prominent political stakeholders within the territory.

Addressing journalists during a media briefing held in Uyo on Thursday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohhammed Azare, confirmed that law enforcement agencies had harmonized strategies to forestall any security breaches throughout the visit.

What specific restrictions have been enforced?

As part of the comprehensive security blueprint, authorities have placed a strict ban on the operation and deployment of drones within the Uyo metropolis. Additionally, the use of fireworks has been completely prohibited throughout the duration of the presidential itinerary to prevent public anxiety and maintain uninterrupted focus among security personnel.

"The Command, in conjunction with other security agencies, have met, deliberated, and put robust security measures in place to check any instances of criminals," CP Azare stated, emphasizing that security forces remain fully prepared to decisively counter any eventualities.

Which routes will experience temporary closures?

To facilitate unhindered movement for the presidential convoy, vehicular traffic will be temporarily diverted along specific transportation corridors. The affected zones include Airport Road, Shelter Afrique Junction, Oron Road, Nung Oku Junction, Mbierebe Junction, and the vicinity surrounding the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

While acknowledging potential inconveniences to commuters, the police commissioner urged residents to utilize alternative routes and extend maximum cooperation to security operatives deployed to manage the exercise.
