Operation Fansan Yamma troops rescued nine people who had been kidnapped and recovered 108 livestock after confronting suspected bandits in the Danko‑Wasagu area of Kebbi State. The operation was announced by Acting Military Information Officer Captain Tamuno Siniveie.

On 3 November 2026, troops from Operation Fansan Yamma of the Joint Task Force North West intervened in the Danko‑Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, freeing nine abducted residents and reclaiming 108 livestock after clashing with suspected bandits.

What triggered the deployment?

The Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Tamuno Siniveie, said his unit received a distress call on 3 November reporting that bandits had attacked the Danko general area, abducted locals and rustled cattle. Within minutes, soldiers from Sector 2 mobilised to the scene and engaged the perpetrators, compelling them to retreat and abandon their captives.

Who were rescued and what was recovered?

The operation yielded two immediate rescues: Barbuga Bawashe, 26, and Barka Dakaji, 61, were liberated after the encounter. In addition, the troops retrieved 34 cows and 74 rams. Later the same day, a coordinated sweep of Sabon Tunga and Binoni villages resulted in the release of seven more victims who had reportedly been held for several months. The individuals identified were Muhammad Dogonta, 60; Zakari Yahu, 32; Basara Sheu, 10; Adam Shehu, 12; Hatsat Umar, 14; Albaria Hamsu, 12; and Yehusa Lawali, 35.

What did the military say about the operation?

Captain Siniveie quoted, “Our forces engaged the attackers, forced them to flee and rescued the victims.” He added that the rescued persons were handed over to the District Head of Unashi for reunification with their families. The officer reaffirmed the commitment of Operation Fansan Yamma to safeguarding lives and property throughout its area of responsibility.

How can the public assist?

The spokesperson urged community members to support security efforts by providing timely and credible information to the troops, emphasizing that local intelligence remains vital in preventing further bandit activities.

The successful rescue underscores the ongoing challenges posed by banditry in north‑western Nigeria and highlights the role of coordinated military responses in protecting vulnerable populations.
