The Ekiti State Security Network Agency, referred to as the Amotekun Corps, has detained 16 individuals suspected of engaging in criminal activities in the Oye Local Government Area.

These suspects were captured on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, by operatives from the Oye Local Government Command of the Amotekun Corps at the Gede Farm settlement in Isan-Ekiti, based on intelligence reports received from the community.

As per information gathered, the arrival of numerous herdsmen and their cattle around the farming settlement created alarm among locals, leading to a resident notifying Amotekun forces.

In response, the local outpost received immediate reinforcement from Oye Command officers, facilitating a coordinated effort that culminated in the arrests.

During initial questioning, the individuals reportedly confessed to having moved from Kwara State to Ekiti without official approval or proper identification.

They were also accused of partaking in cattle theft, primarily targeting livestock owned by Kwara indigenes in that region.

Items seized from the suspects during the operation included N551,500 in cash, seven Tecno mobile phones, assorted charms, packets of cigarettes, tramadol tablets, three VGN identification cards, and a herd of cattle.

Confirming the event in a statement, Abiodun Adeleye, the Director of Information for the Ekiti State Amotekun Corps, characterized the operation as a significant achievement in the corps' aim to safeguard lives and properties across the state.

"This arrest was made possible through timely intelligence from members of the community and swift collaboration among our operatives. The suspects were intercepted with items that raised serious security concerns, and necessary steps were immediately taken to ensure a proper investigation," he stated.

He highlighted that the suspects have been handed over to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Ekiti State Police Command in Ado-Ekiti for thorough investigation and potential prosecution in accordance with the law.

Adeleye reaffirmed the Amotekun Corps’ dedication to upholding peace and security in Ekiti State, encouraging residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information.

“We assure the people of Ekiti that Amotekun remains vigilant and resolute in flushing out criminal elements from every part of the state. Security is a collective responsibility, and community support remains crucial to our success,” he added.
