The 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) is gearing up to once again energize the African film and television landscape, following the announcement that entries are now open.
Starting Sunday, January 11, 2026, content creators and filmmakers throughout Africa are invited to submit their works for evaluation in the continent's foremost awards recognition.
In collaboration with MultiChoice, a subsidiary of Canal+, Africa Magic is urging the continent's finest storytellers to present their talents and vie for top honors.
A press release shared on Thursday with THISDAY indicated that this year's edition is set to be more expansive and impressive, featuring a total of 32 award categories, including 18 decided by a jury and 11 that will be determined by audience voting.
The AMVCA aims to promote Pan-African values, cultural heritage, and fair representation, now extended with the introduction of categories for Best Indigenous Language – North Africa and Best Indigenous Language – Central Africa.
This addition marks a major move towards celebrating the varied languages and cultures of Africa.
It sends a meaningful message that every African narrative is significant and every voice is worthy of being amplified. The AMVCA's dedication to enhancing African talent and creativity remains robust, with expectations that this year's competition will be the fiercest so far.
The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in Lagos, Nigeria, in May 2026, with the submission deadline set for February 15, 2026. Filmmakers and other content contributors may submit their entries online via the official AMVCA website, ensuring that full preview copies are uploaded as they were screened or broadcast.
This year's AMVCA, supported by Don Julio as the primary sponsor, reaffirms the awards' pledge to foster African brilliance, creativity, and craftsmanship.
As the leading awards scheme in the continent, the AMVCA continues to highlight the development, artistry, and international potential of Africa's entertainment sector.
The upcoming event is anticipated to be an unforgettable homage to African film, television, and creative expression.
